Cairns City Backpackers is a tropical oasis with a landscaped rainforest garden. It boasts many palm trees, a swimming pool plus plenty of hammocks and sun loungers.
The hostel is tucked away from the bustle of the city. An easy 25-minute walk will take you to the Esplanade.
Facilities include a kitchen, laundry and free Wi-Fi. There is also a spacious lounge area where you can meet fellow travellers. Discount meal tickets are available nightly to use at some city pubs.
The tour desk can organise discounted Great Barrier Reef trips, white water rafting, skydiving, cycling and horse riding.
Quiet time runs from 10pm to allow guests a good nights sleep.

Cancellation Policy
7 nights for 6 and 14 nights for 12 deals
No refund will be applicable on or after your arrival date. Prior to your arrival date the normal conditions apply as per your chosen room type, see below.
DORMITORY ROOMS
If you cancel your booking giving more than 48 hours notice you will receive a full refund less a 5% cancellation fee. In order to receive a refund, notice must be received by the hostel by 10 am Cairns time, two days prior to arrival. We will refund the balance onto the same credit card that you booked with.
If you cancel your booking giving less than 48 hours notice or fail to arrive no refund will be applicable. Any changes to your booking must be notified to and are at the discretion of Cairns City Backpackers.
PRIVATE ROOMS
If you cancel your booking giving more than 72 hours notice you will receive a full refund less a 5% cancellation fee. In order to receive a refund, notice must be received by the hostel by 10 am Cairns time, 72 hours prior to arrival. We will refund the balance onto the same credit card that you booked with.
If you cancel your booking giving less than 72 hours notice or fail to arrive, no refund will be applicable. Any changes to your booking must be notified to and are at the discretion of Cairns City Backpackers.
20% cancellation fee 30 days or more prior to departure.
50% cancellation fee if within 30 days prior to departure.
100% cancellation fee within 14 days prior to departure.

It is recommended all bookings are confirmed 48 hours in advance of the tour departure by calling +61 7 4051 5777. We are not liable for changes to tours, pricing or itineraries; all of which are subject to change without notice. Neither this site, nor any associated company or agent advertised through this site is responsible for costs or losses resulting from alterations, cancellations, loss of baggage, delay or personal injury. We strongly recommend everyone has their own travel insurance, and scuba diving insurance where applicable.
Childrens prices for ages 4-11 years. Family price is for 2 adults + 2 children age 4 - 11 years.
No alcohol may be consumed prior to in water activities
Minimum age for trying resort scuba diving is 12 years
Please remember you need to allow 24 hours from your last dive before flying.
No refunds on uncompleted dives.
You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire before participating in any scuba activities. Some medical conditions OR medications may prevent you from scuba diving unless a current Queensland Diving Medical Certificate can be shown to the Dive Instructor. For example: heart disease, asthma, epilepsy or diabetes. If you are unsure of a particular medical condition or medication, please check with the dive organisation before booking your dive. Passengers intending to dive but restricted due to the aforementioned will not be offered a refund.
I had an awesome week at this hostel. So many friendly people there. Apparently it's under new management and are slowly making a few improvements (beds, gardens as far as I can see). Nice pool and community area. Tropical feel. Definitely budget but it had everything I needed. Free internet! and air conditioning in the dorms was free too. I booked a couple of tours and they gave me a discount. The staff are very kind and helpful. Would stay again.

COVID safe Tour Protocols & Procedures
Pre-screening
Wherever possible, Reef Trips will seek to pre-screen crew and passengers prior to attendance, in line with identified public health processes.
Maintenance of effective records, survey/questionnaire responses and other customer information may be vital in the community response to COVID-19. Records including pre-screening and contact details will be kept for a minimum two-month period.
Pre-screening also helps to increase staff and customer confidence that they are safe.
Social distancing
Due to the nature of COVID-19 and the manner in which the virus spreads (through close contact with an infected person or touching a contaminated surface), the most effective way to slow transmission of the virus is through physical distancing and hygiene practices.
In all contexts, our staff will facilitate practices which support appropriate social distancing aligned to most recent advice from the Chief Health Officer.
Our management and crew will remain up to date with health advice and to ensure compliance, above and beyond the details outlined in this document.
Indoor and outdoor areas have been calculated for maintaining a density of no more than 1 person per 4-meter square of floor space.
Cleaning & Hygiene
Management will:
Promote frequent and effective hand washing by all staff, customers, and visitors.
Have cleaning and disinfect products readily available with instructions on safe & effective cleaning & disinfecting procedures.
Ensure adequate time and resources are provided for enhanced cleaning procedures to be undertaken.
Ensure appropriate training for staff to implement enhanced cleaning procedures in line with contemporary practice.
Have alcohol-based hand sanitiser and or hand washing facilities with soap readily available to staff and customers for regular use.
Marine Tourism COVID Safe Requirements
A capacity of one person per two square metres based on accessible indoor and outdoor space provided the outdoor space offers protection when inclement weather is expected (e.g. from the sun and rain).
OR
Up to 100% of indoor seated capacity provided passengers are in ticketed and allocated seating to allow for inclement weather, except the kiosk (e.g. food and beverage kiosk) where passengers must maintain 1.5m physical distancing from these areas. Operators must also manage the outdoor space to maintain one person per two square metres in these areas.
